Ministry Seeks Secure Location

January 19, 2012

One of our ministry partners in TURKEY is searching for a place to hold youth camps this summer. In the past their ministry has faced rejection from camp owners, broken promises, vandalism, and theft.

Ask God to provide a safe and secure location for this year’s camps. “For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.”

Provision for a Church in Turkey

January 11, 2012

At the point of signing a contract to rent space for a church, one of our ministry partners in TURKEY was turned away by a landlord who feared Muslim neighbors might cause trouble. But God provided another location for the church to meet.

Thank Him for His provision! “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”

Christians Watched, Denied Aid

January 5, 2012

The earthquakes in TURKEY last fall created a dangerous situation for over 150 Christian Iranian asylum seekers. They were often denied aid, and agents of the Iranian government watched aid stations to identify refugees. UN refugee facilities in the region closed down. Many of the destitute were forced to seek help in other cities, despite the legal trouble they could face for leaving their assigned city.

Pastor Threatened, Converts Struggle

December 26, 2011

A pastor in TURKEY says that he and other pastors receive continual threats by phone and mail. His friend who became a Christian worried about his employment, because in many jobs like his workers can be expected to lie. The pastor says, “It is very difficult for Christians to find a job.”

Ask God to give the pastor and MBBs courage. “For it was fitting that He, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.”

Convert Pressured by Family

December 16, 2011

One of our ministry partners in TURKEY reports that a Muslim background believer he has been discipling is facing pressure from family members because of his faith in Jesus.

Pray that this young man will be strong in the Lord. “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

Our Refuge and Strength

December 19, 2011

An incredible story came out of the earthquake zone in Turkey earlier this year.  As the quake shook a church building on that Sunday afternoon, people rushed outside.  Throughout the region, many people were killed and trapped inside fallen buildings.  But the pastor of this church went back toward the building’s wall and started praying.  He prayed that it would survive and stand as a witness.  God answered his prayer.  The church became a refuge and a center for aid to the community.  God is good!

Hope on the Radio

October 14, 2011

Our ministry partner in West Africa began a radio station that reaches over 2 million listeners.  One of those listeners is “Abibata,” who converted to Christianity from Islam several years ago.  She was struggling in her morning devotions and Christian life. God used the radio ministry to strengthen her with Christian songs, Bible lessons, and preaching.

Land to be Returned

October 8, 2011

In August, the government of TURKEY announced that certain Christians will be permitted to apply for the recovery of properties that were confiscated many years ago.

Pray that the process will be just and that Christians will have restored to them their schools, hospitals, churches, cemeteries, stores, factories, and houses. “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Church Scorned

September 19, 2011

After seven years of trying to get a license from the local government, a house church in TURKEY finally succeeded in being recognized as a place of worship. Soon afterward, a government official criticized new churches, calling them “stooges for Zionist activities.” Believers feel they are seen as deceivers who have a secret agenda.

Pray for perseverance for this congregation. “Nevertheless, in Your great mercies You did not make an end of them or forsake them, for You are a gracious and merciful God.”

Believer in Danger

September 10, 2011

One of our ministry partners in TURKEY is in a dangerous situation and requests prayer for wisdom and protection. He boldly shares the gospel with Muslims, despite opposition.

Please pray with him that he and his family will not be made captive by fear. “O Lord, let Your ear be attentive...to the prayer of Your servants who delight to fear Your name.”

ID Regulations Burden Christians

August 21, 2011

In June a deceased TURKISH Muslim background believer was given a Muslim burial and was prohibited from having a cross on her grave, despite her and her family’s wishes. She had not gone through the hurdles of changing her religion on her government ID card. Her son, also a believer, faced bureaucracy, harassment, questioning, and pressure to convert to Islam when he changed his ID card at the public registration office.

Ask God to give Turkish believers comfort and courage. “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Churches and Leaders under Threat

July 20, 2011

A ministry leader in TURKEY reports that people are planning to raid churches and kill church leaders. He requests prayer for the safety and security of his ministry.

Ask God to protect believers who share the Gospel and to soften the hearts of the Muslims who will hear God’s Word. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

Believers Spied On

June 29, 2011

Earlier this year, agents of the Islamic government of Iran reportedly posed as refugees in TURKEY and spied on Iranian Christians in the region. The spies tried to gather the names and addresses of Christians and relatives still in Iran. Pray that Christian refugees in Turkey will have discernment in whom to trust.

Ask God to protect them and their friends and families. “But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved.”

Missionaries Denounced

June 23, 2011

The Diyanet, TURKEY’S state-run Islamic religious institution, denounced missionary activities this spring. It called such activities “separatist and destructive” and criticized Christians in various professions, such as doctors and teachers, who also share their faith.

Pray that believers will not be intimidated from sharing the Gospel and that their neighbors will be open to it. “Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old.”

Attack on Christian Leader

May 26, 2011

In April in TURKEY, a Christian leader was nearly attacked outside a church building. His assailant fired shots in the air and shouted that the believer would be held responsible for his “missionary activities.” He accused missionaries of changing Turkey’s religious direction. Police took the attacker into custody.

Thank God for sparing the church leader’s life. “The rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.”

Christian Stabbed

May 15, 2011

In TURKEY, a believer’s father and uncle want him dead because of his conversion to Christianity. His cousin stabbed him, probably acting on the uncle’s behalf.

Ask God to heal the believer’s injuries and comfort him. “The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.”

Schoolchildren Forced to Study Islam

May 7, 2011

Some parents in TURKEY report that although non- Muslim students are supposed to be allowed to opt-out of religious classes, their children were forced to take the classes.

Pray that these children will grow deeper in their knowledge of the true Word of God. “He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.”

Believer Shares Gospel

March 5, 2011

Despite the opposition his ministry faces from Muslims, a Christian worker in TURKEY has recently shared the Gospel with policemen, a retired judge, a writer, a dentist, a fisherman, and several university students.

Praise God for his tireless ministry! “I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for My name’s sake, and you have not grown weary.”

Hatred Against Christians Rising

January 29, 2011

A Christian worker in TURKEY reports that Muslims are showing increasing hatred against believers in his city.

Pray that God will encourage Christian workers in Turkey and help them as they share the Gospel with Muslims. “...Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…”

Christian Fired from Job

January 13, 2011

A believer in TURKEY was fired when his employer found out about his faith. He is struggling financially.

Pray that God will provide for him, his wife, and two children during this difficult time. “...for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Family Shuns Turkish Christian

December 28, 2010

A Christian worker in TURKEY is struggling with loneliness. Many of his family members are unkind to him or refuse even to speak to him because he is a believer.

Pray that God will bring many encouragements into his life. “For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given.”

Christians Falsely Sentenced

December 17, 2010

UPDATE: This October, two Christians in TURKEY were acquitted of “insulting Turkishness.” They were, however, convicted of collecting information on citizens without permission, even though the citizens volunteered their contact information. These two believers have been in a legal battle for over four years for their involvement with a Bible correspondence course.

Endangered Believer Finds Encouragement

November 28, 2010

A young woman in TURKEY faces continual danger from officials because of her family’s ministry. Her father, a pastor, is on the government’s wanted list. One day she cried out to Jesus about how she wished she were free to go outside without a bodyguard to pick wildflowers. Later that day, some women and girls unexpectedly gave her a bouquet of daisies.

Praise God for the encouragement and love He gives to His children! “Your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake.”

Believers Losing Home

October 1, 2010

In TURKEY, a pastor suddenly found out that his landlord might be selling their house. The Christian family needs a new home, but other Muslim landlords are reluctant to rent to a pastor.

Pray that God will provide affordable housing for this dedicated family. “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.”

Church Vandalized

September 21, 2010

In TURKEY, vandals wrote pro-Islamic and anti- Christian slogans on a building dating from the early church—a 1,700-year-old place of worship. Turkey was the headquarters of Paul's missionary journeys, and is rich in Biblical history. Although places like Tarsus, Antioch, Laodicea, Ephesus, and Cappadocia (where over 6,000 Christians took refuge in underground dwellings they carved out from the soft volcanic rock) hold deep significance for Christians around the world, Turkish Christians do not have the safety to worship freely.
