Persecution incidents vary widely in terms of how soon they are reported after they occur. In many circumstances, word gets out about them only after a period of time has passed. The list below is therefore only a recent sampling of incidents that we have compiled. There are many, many more. To learn more about persecution, click on the "learn" tab on the main menu.
This list is updated daily.

|Update: Widow of martyr killed||Somalia||
In February, we were praying for Mursal Siad’s family. Mursal was killed on December 8, 2012, by members of Al-Shabaab in Somalia because he followed Jesus. It is with heavy hearts we report that Mursal’s wife, 42-year-old Fartun, was hunted down and also killed.
|Convert jailed and tortured in Somalia||Iran||
Pray for 25-year-old Hassan Gulled - we do not know if he is alive or dead. He was kidnapped by members of Al-Shabaab, a branch of al-Qaeda that operates in Somalia (their war flag is pictured below). According to Morning Star News, Al-Shabaab has been torturing him so he will deny Christ.
|Believers in Egypt attacked during funeral||Egypt||
Reports are pouring in from Egypt - more anti-Christian violence.
|Beaten, tortured, imprisoned - Pakistani Christian finally released!||Iran||
We are constantly praying for our brothers and sisters following Christ in Pakistan. Today, we rejoice with Younis Masih. On Wednesday, April 3, a Pakistani court overturned the case against Younis. He was declared innocent of blasphemy and the justices also said he did not have to pay the $1,013 penalty.
|Church demolished in Indonesia||Indonesia||
On March 21st, another church in Indonesia was destroyed by order of Islamic authorities.
Christians in Taman Sari Village, Indonesia, saw their 13-year-old church building, still under construction, demolished with a backhoe. For years they had tried to "get the right permits," repeatedly trying to get the appropriate authorization so the Huria Kristen Batak Protestant Church could meet legally. And for years they were given the run-around.
|Soldier kills Christian children in Nigeria||Nigeria||
“Dear Jesus, please save me and mom,” 7-year-old Comfort prayed. A soldier from Nigeria's Special Task Force (STF) had just opened fire on her family. Her mother, Lyop, was wounded in the back, the shoulder, and the thigh. Comfort was shot in both legs. Her baby sister and little sister, Nancy, were dead. Her grandma was wounded too.
|Faithful in Syria||Syria||
A pastor in Aleppo, SYRIA, says that every Sunday morning, 75 to 85 people are coming to church, risking their lives so they can pray together "for the Prince of Peace to change people's hearts and minds.” These people are at risk of starving and freezing to death. Praise God for their testimony of reliance on Him.
|Christians under fire in Sudan||Sudan||
The jihad against the largest Christian community in SUDAN continues; believers hide in caves to escape constant air raids and bomb strikes initiated by President Omar al Bashir. Pray that God will provide “springs in the desert” for these believers and enable them to fully believe Jesus’s words, “Take heart, for I have overcome the world.”

|Combating the spread of Islam in Africa||Ghana||
Lift up Pastor “Mbarra” in WEST AFRICA as he combats the spread of Islam and animism in his community by proclaiming God's Word, partly through equipping young pastors and evangelists and commissioning them to bring the Gospel to rural villages. Pray for protection for these harvest workers and ask God to bless the seeds they plant.
He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. - Colossians 1:28
|Turkish children face hostility from families||Turkey||
TURKEY: Continue to pray for Gokhan, Derman, Ulas, and Yaren (ages 11-15) who all prayed for salvation through Jesus Christ last summer. Ask the Lord to keep the fire of their faith burning strong, even as they wrestle with loneliness and hostility from classmates and family.
|Praise God for Respite!||Uzbekistan||
Authorities in UZBEKISTAN have stopped harassing "Paul," a young house-church pastor that Smyrna has helped receive Bible training. Praise God for this respite and ask our King to open doors so that Paul can continue to receive pastoral training and doctrine-focused discipleship.
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. - Colossians 1:9
|Reaching Syrian Refugees with the Gospel||Jordan||
Our partner in the MIDDLE EAST is involved in evangelism and discipleship among Syrian refugees. He is passionate about getting local churches to reach out to the hurting and homeless. Pray for Jesus Christ to be glorified by the love of these believers and for many Muslims to hear the Gospel.
|Disciples in Turkey||Turkey||
Our partners “Amir” and “Ceyda” in TURKEY are discipling several converts from Islam. These new believers have many questions and many needs. Pray for God to provide time and energy to our partners and to protect new converts from their oppressors.
Having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God. - Colossians 2:12
|Pray for Iranian Pastor Avanessian||Iran||
Vruir Avanessian was arrested for celebrating Christmas with a group of believers in Tehran, IRAN. The 60-yr-old pastor, who suffers from kidney failure, was temporarily released on bail on Jan. 10. Pray for him to trust God as he waits for the court to decide the date of his next trial.
Be strengthened with all power according to His glorious might. - Colossians 1:11
|Syria: Christians kidnapped||Syria||
Recently in the city of Hassaké, SYRIA, there have been about 25 Christian doctors, lawyers, and professionals kidnapped by Islamists. Poor Christians are also being threatened. Only God can bring hope and healing to believers caught in the madness there. Pray for His hand to be upon His children.
You have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. - Colossians 2:10
|Eva Abdullah - Released!||Tanzania||
In case you missed it, we're still PRAISING THE LORD - Eva Abdullah is out of prison! On January 9, the High Court of TANZANIA ruled that Eva was not guilty of desecrating the Quran. The 17-yr-old girl spent 371 days in prison after leaving Islam to worship Jesus. Thank God for the faithful believers who have prayed and worked for her release and who are now taking care of her.
"My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding." - Colossians 2:2
|Filmmaker threatened with deportation||Pakistan||
Although Imram Farasat was granted asylum in Spain to escape threats to his life, he might be deported back to PAKISTAN. Imram is a filmmaker who has spoken up for Christians being persecuted under Islam. “The Bible teaches us to speak the truth in any situation. And…the truth is that Islam is a man-made religion which was created in order to govern the world.”
Pray for Imram to have boldness and endurance in the face of imminent danger and death.
|Still praising: 19 Children rescued from human trafficking||Bangladesh||
Mega praise! On February 3, students from Dhaka university in BANGLADESH rescued 19 Christian children, ages 5 to 12, from a man who was selling them to a madrassa. Binoy Tripura lied to the parents, telling them he was taking their kids to a Christian school, when in reality he was selling them to train as suicide bombers. Praise God that Tripura is in police custody and that these children were rescued!
|Christian Boys convicted of "desecrating" the Qur'an||Egypt||
EGYPT, Update: An Egyptian court convicted two Coptic Christian boys, ages 10 and 9, of “insulting the Quran.” The boys are with their parents now but in the eyes of the government they are considered legally guilty. Their future is uncertain.
|Government in Kenya||Kenya||
KENYA: A Christian reports that, "The government is fearful; it does not know how to handle the Islamist drive, and thus has a tendency to give in easily to demands, sometimes at the expense of the churches."
Pray that believers will put their hope and trust firmly in the Lord of Heaven’s armies and not in the feeble governments and councils of men.
"Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross." - Colossians 2:15
|Pastor saved from killers||Turkey||
Praise from TURKEY! God protected Emre Karaali, the pastor of Izmit Protestant Church, from a plot to kill him. Police arrested 14 suspects who were planning to murder the 33-yr-old convert and his family.
Pray for Mohamed Habi, a Christian in MALI. “I gave my life to Christ two years ago but all members of my family are Muslims, which is why my wife and daughter despise me. When the Islamists captured Timbuktu and began their search for Christians to kill, I escaped…”
Praise God for his escape; ask the Lord to provide for his needs.
"God has brought us into the kingdom of His Son, in whom we have redemption." - Colossians 1:13
|Malaysian Christians face censorship||Malaysia||
In January, Christians in MALAYSIA were forbidden by the Sultan of the State of Selangor from using the term ‘Allah.’ This Arabic word for God has been used in Bibles in the Malay language and litany for more than 400 years. Muslims say they will organize Bible burning festivals. Pray for the Spirit to overcome discouragement.
God gave me a commission to present to you the word of God in its fullness. - Colossians 1:25
|Pray for Christians in Eritrea||Eritrea||
ERITREA: The hideously cruel regime of President Isaias Afewerki may be crumbling! On Jan. 21, insurgents seized the state television building and broadcast a message that insisted Afewerki release thousands of political prisoners (many Christians) and return to a democratically elected government. The coup was brutally put down, but shows that the nation is not at peace with its Islamist leader.
Pray for God to establish justice in Eritrea for the sake of His persecuted Church!
|Christian pastor imprisoned in Kazakhstan released!||Kazakhstan||
Praise God! Pastor Makset Djabbarbergenov was released from prison in KAZAKHSTAN. He is now safe in Europe. Pray for God’s protection and blessing over Pastor D., his wife, and three children!
|Pakistan: Asma Masih||Pakistan||
Asma Masih, a fifteen-year-old girl from Pakistan, was abducted on December 10th, 2012. Christians in many Islamic countries report that their daughters (often very young girls) are targeted by Islamists. They are raped, and then married to their captors. Sadly, most authorities do not get involved because the kidnapper will claim that the girl chose to marry him and convert to Islam.
|Continue to pray for Rimsha Masih and her family!||Pakistan||
Last summer in PAKISTAN, 14-yr-old Rimsha Masih was accused of blasphemy. This January, she was acquitted by the country’s Supreme Court. Right now she and her family are living in a safe house to protect them from angry mobs. Ask God to pour out grace on this family as they seek to find a new ‘normal.’

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. - Colossians 1:17
|Pray for protection in Bangladesh||Bangladesh||
The government of BANGLADESH is trending more and more Islamist. Muslims constantly threaten Christians, deny them access to public water wells, beat them, destroy their property, and extort money from them. Ask God to safeguard our ministry partner as he teaches converts the perfect love of Christ which casts out fear.
"He has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him."
