Gunmen Attack Church

May 31, 2012

UPDATE: Gunmen attacked and damaged a church building in INDONESIA on March 16. The congregation has persevered despite years of harassment.

Ask God to continue to sustain them. “He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things?”

The GKI Yasmin Church in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia continues to face opposition from Muslims. Their struggle for the right to meet on their own land has been ongoing for four years. Recently gunmen attacked and damaged the church building. In their car police found “a map of the church building as well as information about other targets in different cities.”

Despite a Supreme Court ruling in the congregation’s favor, the Muslim mayor has continuously prevented the church building from reopening. Recently he agreed that the church can reopen if a mosque is built next to it. Some are concerned, however, that this proposal will not really bring about peace with local Muslims, who also oppose the church.

The GKI Yasmin congregation has persevered through many trials. Please pray for these believers.

“We have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying around in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.”—2 Corinthians 4:7-10
