India: Adult Literacy

God is using literacy programs to open eyes to the truth. Our ministry partner saw a great need in beautiful northern India, where 80% of adults cannot read. Poverty often prevents boys from being educated, and in predominately Muslim areas, women and girls are rarely thought competent to go to school. Our ministry partner’s outstanding program is succeeding where government programs have failed, and in consequence believers win grudging respect and even appreciation from officials who might otherwise oppose their ministry.

As Christians offer these skills to Muslims, they open doors to share their friendship, love – and the Gospel. Those who come to Christ experience the joy of being able to read God’s Word for the first time!

This ministry has 15 adult literacy centers which help about 400 illiterate adults (mostly women) to lean the basic skills of reading and writing. Our ministry partner writes that when he visited he “was happy to see the progress they are making. . . . We very much appreciate your earnest prayers for this project.”
