Prayers for persecuted Christians in Tajikistan
Violent Islamic Groups Increasing
A region of TAJIKISTAN has an increasingly noticeable presence of violent Islamic groups.
Ask God to protect the tiny Christian population of Tajikistan, which composes less than 2% of the population. “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted…”
Congregation kicked out in Tajikistan
A congregation in Tajikistan has been given ten days to leave their church building. Officials claim believers do not actually own the building they bought at auction in 1997.
Pray that Christians can continue to worship together in peace. "And I looked, and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the temple of the LORD. And I fell on my face."
Bible Study Raided
A group of Christians met in TAJIKISTAN to study the Bible. Muslims raided the meeting, filmed the members, and warned them that there would be consequences. Now, they have been fined and a judge has forbidden them to gather. The congregation has determined to continue fellowshipping together.
Pray that Christ will strengthen their faith and grow their numbers. “But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one.”
Bible import restrictions
Tajikistan prevented one church group from importing a large shipment of Bibles, on the grounds that the number exceeded their need.
Pray that God will place a copy of the Bible in the hands of all those in Tajikistan who need one. "He who saw it has borne witness -- his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth -- that you also may believe."
Churches Denied Registration
TAJIKISTAN required all churches to re-register before January first. Thus far, fewer than ten churches have successfully navigated the registration process. Officials hide paperwork, delay meetings, or simply refuse to file the paperwork. Registration also requires all church members to submit extensive personal information.
New Law Censors All Christian Literature
Tajikistan's president signed a new religion law imposing state censorship of religious literature and control of religious education. Believers must now get official permission for international religious contacts.
Pray for freedom to worship God in Spirit and in truth. "And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
